Sorter Systems
Sorter systems direct products to specific points based on information from their barcodes. These systems can operate independently or be integrated into an end-to-end solution for a warehouse or distribution center. The variety of sorter systems depends on the physical characteristics and capacities of the products to be sorted.
As Prode Design Engineering, we have been able to produce sorter systems with a capacity of up to 3000 items per hour since our establishment. For higher capacities (15,000 items per hour and above), we provide services as an integrator and execute turnkey projects.
Types of Sorter Systems
Pop-up Roller Sorter
This type of sorter operates by lifting rollers between belts to divert items. It can sort up to 2000-2500 items per hour, depending on the product type.
Narrow-Belt Sorter
Similar to the pop-up roller sorter, this system uses a belt mechanism for sorting while the carrier is a roller. Its capacity is comparable to the pop-up roller sorter.
Wheel Diverter Sorter
Items are conveyed by rotating rollers, which direct products to exits by rotating at specific angles (30°, 45°, 60°). It does not sort at 90°. The capacity decreases with increasing variability in product sizes, but it can handle up to 3000 items per hour if product sizes are consistent.
Roller Top Sorter
Modular belts with plastic spheres direct products in conjunction with a flat belt conveyor. It can efficiently sort up to 4000 items per hour.
Sliding Shoe Sorter
On a modular belt, “shoes” move along a rail to push items to exits. It is advantageous for operations with a wide range of products and can sort 8000-9000 items per hour. Its disadvantages include noise and inability to sort thin items like envelopes or brochures.
Tray Sorters
These sorters use trays or bins to transport and eject items. They are classified by their ejection method:
– Tilt Tray Sorter
– Split Tray Sorter
– Push Tray Sorter
Their capacity can exceed 15,000 items per hour. They are suitable for small and light products but may face size limitations with larger parcels.
Cross-Belt Sorters
Similar to tray sorters but without the tilting or splitting mechanism. Each carrier is a conveyor belt, which operates to eject items at the designated exits. They can achieve capacities of 30,000-40,000 items per hour, making them the highest capacity sorter systems with a wide range of product compatibility. They can operate both vertically and horizontally.
Advantages of Sorter Systems
Sorter systems are advanced technology solutions used to optimize storage and distribution processes. They offer many advantages:
1. Increased Efficiency: Sorter systems enable fast and accurate product sorting, reducing the need for manual labor and enhancing operational efficiency.
2. Reduced Error Rates: Working with barcode or RFID technologies, sorter systems minimize human errors, lowering the risk of incorrect shelving or misdirected shipments.
3. High Capacity: These systems can sort thousands of items per hour, handling the heavy workload of large warehouses and distribution centers.
4. Flexibility: Various types of sorters make it easy to sort products of different sizes and weights, ideal for diverse industries.
5. Lower Labor Costs: Automated sorter systems reduce the need for manual labor, cutting labor costs significantly, especially in large-scale operations.
6. Space Saving: Sorter systems that can work vertically and horizontally use warehouse space more efficiently, leading to better space utilization and organization.
7. Quick ROI: Increased efficiency and reduced labor costs lead to a quick return on investment for sorter systems.
8. Enhanced Tracking and Control: Integrated software solutions allow easy tracking and control of products, improving inventory management and stock control.
9. Reduced Labor Stress: Automation reduces physical workload for employees, decreasing the risk of workplace accidents and reducing stress levels.
10. Environmentally Friendly: More efficient operations lower energy consumption and waste, minimizing environmental impact.
